It’s Thursday afternoon and I can’t quite believe it’s almost time to go racing again! This weekend sees the opening round of The Porsche Club Championship at Brands Hatch Indy. I’ll be racing on Saturday at 12.20pm and 5.10pm with qualifying starting at 9am. I feel ready. With my new lighter steering, I really believe I can make a mark on the championship this season.
Testing has been limited and problematic in the build up to this race but the last test session I had at Silverstone has shown some real promise. I feel like we’re starting from a blank canvas and that Silverstone test day was day one. I love the Brands Indy Circuit, my first ever race, my highest ever finish and a circuit that taught me never to lift mid corner! I still think about the moment at Paddock in 2014 but my fear of that corner has turned to respect, as long as I respect it I think I can make some gains there.
I’ve been having some CBT therapy ahead of this season and I think it’s really helped. My self talk is much more positive now and if you give me a compliment, I’ll accept it at face value. I’m here on merit now and I’ve earned the right to call myself a decent racer.
I’m fitter this season too having just completed my first season back at wheelchair rugby. I won best in class too so let’s hope that more trophies are on the way!
I’ve got heaps of support this weekend which is a real boost to my confidence. If you are coming along, I’ll be in garage 1 on Saturday. I’ve got some new sponsors to announce too so keep an eye on my social media channels. I’ll also be putting links up to the TSL live timing sites up too. It’s been a long off season so all that is left to say is LET’S DO THIS!
